Are your patterns permanent?

Lately I have been immersed in courses, lectures, readings and exercises in neurobiology. And I have been trying them out on myself. If it works for me (the true skeptic that I am) then I know I can pass it on to my clients. The verdict is still out, but I have to say that I have high hopes. I am already noticing changes in the way that I react (in other words, I don’t react as strongly when I am challenged) and I can feel myself honouring my own emotions without getting overwhelmed by them. Neurobiology shows us that our brains are quite plastic, from re-wiring lifelong patterns of trauma, over-reactivity, poor boundaries right through to new wiring after a stroke. It also shows tremendous results in altering our attachment patterns from infancy that do not serve us well as adults. As I continue to learn and test and grow this part of what it is to create a flourishing life, I will be offering coaching and courses and further blogs in order to pass it on to you. It gives hope based on science where, previously, none existed. It brings a sigh of relief from someone who was immersed in beliefs from counselling that some ‘flaws’ and ‘pathologies’ were ‘very hard’ to change. New brain imaging technologies are showing us a very different story. Stay tuned for part II.

Until next time, Johanna
